The Farmers Market Health Zone – –
This week at the market the U of A Cooperative Extension and the Vista Transit  have partnered to  bring the AZ Health Zone to the Sierra Vista Farmers Markets. From April to October, every 2nd Thursday of the month the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension will be at the market to help Sierra Vista and Cochise County residents live healthier lives. At noon on those Thursdays they’ll be giving a cooking demonstration using fresh farmers markets produce. They’ll even have shopping buddies for those who need some help navigating the hustle and bustle of the market.  For those needing a little extra help navigating the Vista Transit system, Judy with the transit system will be available as a “Bus Buddy”.  As part of this outreach, the U of A will help educate area residents on how to use their SNAP benefits and Double Up bucks at the market. There will be kid-friendly activities, giveaways, recipes , and other resources. To learn more stop by the info booth at the market on Thursday and pick up one of the helpful fliers. We’ll also have the Vista Transit schedule and route at the information booth.

This week their cooking demo will show you how to make an Arizona Sunshine Salad. Demo starts at 12 noon next to the market information booth.

This Week At the Market

Agricultural and Produce Vendors Spotlight

San Ysidro Farms
San Ysidro Farm has a 100% grass fed beef and lamb. Their heritage cross pigs provide their fine pork. If you are looking for a new market lunch choice try their delicious pasties made with their farm fresh meats. Try it for lunch or take home frozen for later.

Mistik Valley Farms
We welcome a new produce vendor to the market this past week.  Mistik Valley Farms, a group of young growers, who offer home-grown produce such as salad mix, lettuce mix, spinach, kale, Swiss chard, and other greens. They harvest the day before market and hand-wash all their greens. Their farm is outside of Bisbee. Come welcome them and check out their produce.

Ruth’s Garden
It’s time to think about your summer garden and Ruth has just what you need-tomatoes! She and her brother have a large selection to chose from and they suggest to never put your hopes on just one tomato. They recommend planting twice as many as you think you will need. Oh, and don’t forget to add a cherry tomato – they hardly ever fail and they make a great snack while you’re in the garden. Come over and chat with Ruth and Ray about tomatoes or anything else garden at Ruth’s garden.

Ogden Maple Farms
For those of you looking for a naturally delicious and sweet treat, Ogden Maple Farms from Ohio are back with a fresh batch of maple syrup, candy, and also maple dog biscuits. We welcome back Glenn and Kathy. Note: they will be delayed by another week (April 18 appearance).
